The accompanying thong is beautiful too, a lovely wide satin band which is fairly soft and very comfortable to wear for a long time, with a satin triangle front and trimmed to perfection at the back with a tiny bit of gold lace. This basque is a perfect set. Period. We were not able to see a single defect in the lace before putting it on and neither did we see any after using it, therefore the quality is maximum. Very soft and silky. The quality of the materials that we can find in this basque is only comparable to the most expensive lingerie brands on the market: quality is supreme. Design: I think it's the combination of materials and design that make this basque a perfect set. The whole design breathes luxury, glamor and sensuality. The cups are half-cups and are lightly padded. They wrap around the chest, round it and give it volume, and the lace on the top contoured even more the breast, making it ideal for those with small breasts as it gives a larger sensation or for those with large breasts, so that gives the feeling that the breasts are overflowing. I should add that the underwires of the cups are extremely comfortable and reach the entire breast from behind so that the underwires do not dig into the armpits or in your skin in the centre. The central part has a V-shaped design that goes from the breast to the centre and, creating a tremendously sensual triangle, redirects with pleasure all the attention from the breast to our intimate area. This basque is an ideal set for people who have a mummy tummy, giving them confidence, as it is a set that not only lengthens your figure, it also makes you thinner.

I was extremely excited to get my hands on this set, and completely surprised that it was Fifty Shades. Though I must say from my experience with other products in the Fifty Shades collab with Lovehoney, I've never been disappointed. LH really took what was a meagre series of misinformed books, and created a range of products that are high quality, fabulous to perceive and even more exciting to use. This Captivate lingerie range is no exception. I was able to try this basque set along with the bra set as I was immediately drawn to the architecture of the pieces, and the shapes they create. The gorgeous combination of black and gold, the intricate straps and the fine rose embroidery all catered to my love of 20s art deco. The addition of the built in collar is really lovely too, and just adds that little something *extra* that you don't usually get with your standard set. What you also don't always get is a pretty looking back view - though I will admit it's mostly down to the underwear. The back of the basque itself is simply a sheer black fabric, with rows from the boning. The straps But the underwear has a small triangle of gold and black lace to hark back to the black and gold roses from the front of the piece. Which is lovely, since so often your behind is forgotten and the patterns stop and it feels unfinished. The patterns in the front help draw focus away from curves, which is good, since there isn't really much hold to it. I like basques that hold me in a little, but despite having boning to add some shape, the panels have stretchy fabric which eases that hold and makes it less effective. Not non-existent mind you, you still get some shape, just a little less so than you might hope. I'm a size 14 and have 34DD cup size and wore the Large, and it fit comfortably. I did have an issue with the padded bra as I would be smaller on one side of my chest so I found there was a little gap in the cup - but I prefer this than one looking like it's going to pop out haha. Like a muffin top, but it's your chest. (A cupcake?) The vertical straps from the collar down the centre of the piece, plus the stocking straps and the shoulder straps all pleasantly elongate the form and draws the eye down your body in a very good way. I actually had less trouble than I normally do with the multiple clasps getting this on. Often I have to turn the piece around and fasten it from the front and then awkwardly twist it around, but the aforementioned stretchy fabric does help with this and I got everything fastened behind my back without looking first try. My only really struggle was with the G-hook on the collar. But I'm sure people with a helping hand or more experience wouldn't have an issue but for me personally, it was a minor struggle. I also found the collar a little difficult to adjust and found that it was still a little loose around my neck, but not in any noticeable way - I wonder if excessive pulling or dragging would stretch that material, but it hasn't happened yet! The underwear provide a lot of over in the front and little in the back, and none underneath. which allows you to just pull the string to one side and have full access for play. They're also a stretchy fabric, so there's no issues pulling them aside instead of taking them off. I also didn't have any roll-up issues with the body of the basque thanks to the boning, when I wore it without stockings - so that's always a plus!

Fifty shades of sexy

This Lovehoney Fifty Shades of Grey Captivate Black and Gold Basque Set looks amazing even before it's on. The gold pattern really sets this off as looking very sexy. I was intrigued by the neck part, which is detachable, but was unsure how restrictive it would be on for my partner. The fit when on is really fantastic. We got a large and my partner is a size 14 with a 36E bust. It has ample room for more in both the bust and body. The panelling mesh on the sides is great. We felt not as flattering as some other pieces we have had, but great looking all the same. The gold design is what sets this off it has a very classy look about it and my partner looked amazing. I also think it made her feel body confident which is always a winner. The comfort level was amazing with my wife, saying it could easily be worn out for the evening underneath. The neck piece and suspenders also are removable, so it's very versatile. The neck part was a surprise for us and didn't feel throttling, and I will admit made this more attractive in the look once on, something new for us. The knickers are also a great fit with more room to accommodate and the gold lace on the rear makes it look great from behind. This is another winner for us the sizing seems to be really well thought out again. The mesh panelling and feel of the garment really make this one that will get used a lot more. It's great on the eye and makes a great addition to our toybox.

So pretty but not particularly practical

I was very kindly sent this item to test and review - thank you, Lovehoney! In usual Lovehoney style, it arrived packaged discreetly and sent by a tracked delivery method so I knew just when to expect it. When opening this item, I was struck by how much more luxurious it is in person. I hadn't had much to go off with this being a secret tester, but it exceeded my expectations immediately. All the stitching is neat, the materials are high quality, and the embroidery on the basque and collar section is just gorgeous. I'm a UK size 12 and received this in size Medium. It's a really good fit. I need to wear it on the last of the 3 sets of hook and eye closures down the back, but that's partly because I have definitely never mastered the art of closing a basque at the back, so I have to do it up at the front and twist it, which requires a little more wiggle room for the twisting. The mesh that it's made of is really quite stretchy so this is a basque that is way more accomodating than most. This set has a good amount of adjustability as the shoulder straps, suspender straps and length between the neck piece and the main basque are all also adjustable. The suspender straps and the neck piece are also completely removable which I think is a neat touch. I've come to expect suspender straps to be optional now, but I didn't expect it would be so versatile that I could decide to wear it without the collar bit if I'd like to. Major bonus points for that! The cups in this basque are supportive and pretty accomodating - I'm a C cup and this fits me well with a little room left. The little thong that comes with the basque is really cute - I love that it has matching embroidery on the triangle at the back, and the sizing is really comfortable too because the waistband and the string from crotch to triangle is made of soft and stretchy elastic. I want to repeat here, soft and stretchy elastic, just in case your mind went to the nightmare kind of elastic that panties are sometimes made from that give you all the wrong lumps and bumps - these are so flattering and really well made. They're super comfortable, and much better made than most accompanying set panties I've ever seen as they have the soft elastic, a lined gusset, and the mesh is really soft on the skin too. The only thing that lets this basque down is a problem that I've had with a lot of lace or mesh basques - the 'boning' in the panels. I never really know what to call it because it doesn't feel hard like plastic and it's very flexible, it's certainly not the uncomfortable metal you get in corsets, but it's just.... there. This one has 6 of them running down the full length of the basque and I'm just very not sure what they're for because the rest of the item is mesh so the boning is powerless to make it keep its shape, and whenever I'm in a not totally straight posture (bending over, kneeling, all the fun ones...) then they curve and stick out from my body and look rather ridiculous. They pop out in a curve away from my body and totally ruin the look of the basque unless I stand like a mannequin at all times, which is not especially practical for a sexy garment. It's a real shame because on every other count this item is really beautiful.

I love the look of this basque. The black mesh and satin design is actually quite simple, but the gold embroidery just takes it up to another level, especially when you add in the collar part. The whole look just oozes classy sexy appeal and is the perfect basque to help bring out your inner goddess. The fabric is really good quality and doesn't feel in danger of ripping. The strapping is both adjustable and wide, making it really comfortable to wear and easy to get the right fit. The sliders and clips are metal, which adds to the expensive feel of the piece although the actual suspender clips themselves are black plastic, which is a touch disappointing.Although I definitely think the collar completes the look really well, I do like that it is removable. The strap connecting it to the basque is adjustable, although the collar itself is not. There is a little stretch to it though and it will fit up to a bit over 15 inches. I am a size 18/20 (probably a little closer to size 20 at the moment) and have E cups boobs. I have this set in the 1X/2X size which should be a good fit. The cup size is definitely right for me. I would say that it would fit a little bit larger than me, but might swamp someone much smaller than a C or a D cup. The basque itself though, I found it fit perfectly on the tightest hook and eye closing, with enough wiggle room to put it on backwards and spin it round. If anything, this set does come up a little large. Because of the way Lovehoney do their sizing, I am not sure I would fit into the next size down, but if you are a size 20 who is maybe teetering on a 20/22, I think the 1X/2X might be the right size for you. The g-string that comes with it is not adjustable, but is very stretchy and almost too big on me. Golden Goddess

I love the look of this basque. The black mesh and satin design is actually quite simple, but the gold embroidery just takes it up to another level, especially when you add in the collar part. The whole look just oozes classy sexy appeal and is the perfect basque to help bring out your inner goddess. The fabric is really good quality and doesn't feel in danger of ripping. The strapping is both adjustable and wide, making it really comfortable to wear and easy to get the right fit. The sliders and clips are metal, which adds to the expensive feel of the piece although the actual suspender clips themselves are black plastic, which is a touch disappointing.Although I definitely think the collar completes the look really well, I do like that it is removable. The strap connecting it to the basque is adjustable, although the collar itself is not. There is a little stretch to it though and it will fit up to a bit over 15 inches. I am a size 18/20 (probably a little closer to size 20 at the moment) and have E cups boobs. I have this set in the 1X/2X size which should be a good fit. The cup size is definitely right for me. I would say that it would fit a little bit larger than me, but might swamp someone much smaller than a C or a D cup. The basque itself though, I found it fit perfectly on the tightest hook and eye closing, with enough wiggle room to put it on backwards and spin it round. If anything, this set does come up a little large. Because of the way Lovehoney do their sizing, I am not sure I would fit into the next size down, but if you are a size 20 who is maybe teetering on a 20/22, I think the 1X/2X might be the right size for you. The g-string that comes with it is not adjustable, but is very stretchy and almost too big on me. I'm not massively impressed with the string, yes it does cover what it should, and the gold embroidery on the back is nice, but it does leave the front looking very plain. I think I'll be finding myself some plain, satin knickers to complete the look.Overall this is a beautiful basque that I love wearing. I am not a fan of the Fifty Shades franchise, but I do normally like the Lovehoney products inspired by it and this is no exception. There is the Fifty Shades tag at the top, which is pretty small and easily removable if wanted to.

Stunning, and very sexy

The first think I noticed when unpacking this lovely Basque set was the striking contrast of the black and gold, it really does look lovely. This continues when you touch the materials, its a really well made piece of lingerie, and just feels amazing against your skin. I had a little trouble with the neck "choker", as the catch at the back is a little fiddly, luckily this is removable so it was discarded to prevent me from getting stuck in it again. Once on, its a really comfortable piece, and you can feel the quality of the materials against your skin. There nice thick detachable suspender straps at the bottom too, and with nice strong metal clasps, they didn't come lose or pop off, so that was nice. There is a mesh front thong that comes with the set, and i was surprised that this was also very good quality, and very comfortable to wear, the free knickers can often be a bit hit and miss, but these are good, and will be worn on their own too. The fit is good for the size, i can feel a bit "snug" in some 1/2x pieces, however this one has plenty of adjustment, so isn't a problem. All in, this is a lovely and comfortable piece that looks and feels amazing, and will be worn often.
